We have loads of charities, supporting the widest variety of causes, available for anyone to choose from - whenever the need to support an inspiring/worthy cause arises.

But which one charity do you support?
Who do you donate your money, goods or time to?

I decided to support Gifts From The Universe Project (founded by Mike Dooley of tut.com). I see this project as the greatest - for three main reasons:

  1. Because for many months now, Notes from the Universe have been my biggest and most reliable source of inspiration.

  2. I know that Mike and his team have done their homework and whatever charity they choose, must be reliable - the kind that really makes difference in the world.

  3. It feels good to know that through Gifts From the Universe Project I am able to donate for people, nature and animals.

Michael Dooley's Notes from the Universe tempt me into opening my email first thing in the morning on weekdays. I love to receive a new reminder of infinite possibilities every day:

"A philosophical club of like-minded thinkers who believe that life is the ultimate adventure... because thoughts become things, dreams come true, and all things remain forever possible!
Membership is FREE and begins with taking The Oath to receive our free 'Notes from the Universe' emailings - short and often humorous reminders of life's magic and your divinity."

In 2008 TUT's Adventurers Club came out with an exciting announcement:

"To celebrate all that we're blessed with, TUT is launching our 'Gifts from the Universe' Project! The idea is to create an avenue for TUT's Adventurers Club members to speak with one voice, one heart, and one focus by contributing $1 (or more if you can) per month to a designated "cause" in need of our support."

And my favorite sentence from description of the 'GIFTS FROM THE UNIVERSE PROJECT': "If one person with one dollar can make a difference, think what 250,000 of us can do, each and every month!"

Maya Angelou:

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.

Eliminating poverty housing and homelessness from the world... one dollar at a time!

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else.

Everyone should donate as much as possible

Cajean says:

Raising funds for transparent and financially accountable causes is always so rewarding. Knowing that my, and others, hard earned cash is making a difference in children's lives through education, food, clothing, health care, and love above all, is a total blessing...because it covers physical, mental and spiritual needs.

WhitU4ever says:

Whether time or money, giving is very rewarding. However, we should know how our money is being used when we give it. Believe it or not, there are many charities that take advantage. And as awful as it sounds, not all of America's homeless are honest either. Some are there by choice. Some are not. But because shelters and churches make it so easy, many like to take advantage and use these to support their drinking and drug habits. Many do not wish to work, and therefore, have found ways to avoid it. Their routine is more set than some business executives. (See John Stossel's report on Homeless in America.) That's why I am particularly fond of giving my time, and of helping orphans in third world countries.

AnonD says:

Donating money isn't the same thing as getting hands on and actually helping people yourself, but it's a great way to support the people who CAN do that. And, if you've got the resources to spare and are able to help others out by giving money that is always appreciated and needed. Giving will always return 10-fold to you. No matter how you give (money, fundraisers, hands-on, etc.) or to who you give you will always give the world a little more much needed good.

daria369 says:

Whenever my heart tells me to donate, I follow. Besides, as Ann Frank said, "No one has ever become poor by giving."

There are better ways to help

23gillies says:

We do live in a moronic world today, where there are more than enough resources to support the vast populus but corporations and individuals seem to give money a higher value than human life.. great lens

susannaduffy says:

Imagine- war budgets are confiscated and used to ensure adequate food, water, housing and quality of life for all. Imagine!

Arten says:

Everyone should at least try to make the world a better place. This doesnt mean that you have to volunteer for 50 hours a week. Everything counts.

Donation for charity

Legally, donations are gifts given - without return consideration.

A donation is a gift given by physical or legal persons, typically for charitable purposes and/or to benefit a cause. A donation may take various forms, including cash, services, new or used goods including clothing, toys, food, vehicles, it also may consist of emergency, relief or humanitarian aid items, development aid support, and can also relate to medical care needs as i.e. blood or organs for transplant. Charitable gifts of goods or services are also called gifts in kind.

Winston Churchill:

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Arthur Rubinstein:

Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back.
